1. Cookie Categories & Scope

Cookies and browser storage mechanisms (LocalStorage/SessionStorage) are used solely to ensure seamless, secure interactions with PDFLean. Pursuant to the EU ePrivacy Directive (Directive 2002/58/EC) and GDPR guidelines, all stored items are categorized by purpose, and every optional category has its own independent toggle you can grant or revoke at any time.

2. Strictly Necessary Cookies (Always Active)

Essential for basic site operation, anti-forgery protection (CSRF tokens), and session management. These cookies contain only randomized cryptographic session tokens and do not track browsing activity across other domains. They cannot be toggled off individually.

3. Functional Preferences (Disabled by Default)

Preserves user UI customizations, including Dark/Light theme mode, your preferred interface language, and tool sort orders. Without this storage, these preferences are simply not saved and the interface stays at system defaults.

4. Privacy-Preserving Telemetry (Disabled by Default)

Covers both first-party technical metrics (page load time, WebAssembly engine initialization success rate) and third-party analytics services (Google Analytics 4 and Bing). Analytics data is used only to optimize tool performance and global edge delivery; all records are aggregated and stripped of IP addresses and user IDs, never linked to your account.

5. Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure

The free tier may display advertising and affiliate links to keep local tools free. We do not use cross-site behavioral tracking pixels, fingerprinting, or retargeting/exchange-based advertising profiles, and paid plans are ad-free. If we use a third-party ad or affiliate network, only strictly necessary or consent-based storage is set, and you can opt out at any time through the consent banner.

6. Modifying & Revoking Consent

You retain full authority to review, update, or completely withdraw cookie consent at any time. Your preferences remain valid for 6 months before requiring re-confirmation. To adjust your settings, use the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of any page — it reopens the preference dialog instantly.
