AI Transparency Notice

Effective date:

Executive Summary

Some optional features use AI to summarise, translate, or extract information. This notice explains when AI is used, how you are told, and how to reach a human.

1. Where AI is used

AI is used only in explicitly labelled optional features, such as document summarisation, translation, question answering, or metadata extraction. Core local tools do not use AI. AI features are invoked on the server through a proxy; no provider API key is exposed to your browser.

2. How we tell you

AI features are explicitly labelled in the interface, and the chat panel indicates that responses are generated by an AI system. This disclosure is shown in the interface itself and is not buried in these terms.

3. Labelling synthetic output

Where AI generates or substantially modifies output that could be mistaken for authentic media, we add a visible label where appropriate. We do not remove or obscure AI labels.

4. Data & limits

AI features are opt-in: they run only when you explicitly use one, and core local tools never call an AI provider. Our AI provider is DeepSeek, invoked through a server-side proxy; only the minimum necessary content (for search-and-summarise, the matched passages rather than the whole file) is sent. PDFLean does not use your files to train its models, and we instruct providers contractually not to use submitted content for model training. AI credits are consumed per request and are shown in your account. AI output can be inaccurate or incomplete and must be reviewed by a human before being relied upon for legal, financial, or medical decisions. AI features are not intended for high-risk decision-making about individuals.
