What is it?Remove PDF Metadata is a PDFLean optimization tool: Clear title, author, subject, keywords and XMP metadata before sharing a PDF.

TL;DR: Clear title, author, subject, keywords, and XMP metadata before sharing a PDF. Everything runs locally in your browser — your file is never uploaded and is cleared when you close the tab; only metadata is removed while page content is unaffected (≤10MB).

Measured: ~20 ms median on a typical sample — full benchmark table below.

About this tool

Remove document info dictionary fields (title, author, subject, keywords) and strip XMP metadata streams before sharing a PDF. Producer and Creator fields are set to PDFLean, while page content and visual layout remain completely untouched. Processing runs locally in your browser memory without file uploads, and your document is cleared immediately upon closing the tab. Free with no account required; on-page limits apply (≤10MB).

FAQ

Will my file be uploaded?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser — your file is never uploaded and is cleared when you close the tab.

Are there any limits?

Document info, XMP metadata, and hidden channels such as auto-actions, named targets, and page thumbnails are cleared; page text and layout are unaffected; file size is limited to ≤10MB.

Will this alter the page content?

Not at all. It empties document info fields (title, author, subject, keywords), removes the XMP metadata stream, and clears auto-actions, named targets, and page thumbnails, setting Producer/Creator to PDFLean. Main body text, page visuals, and layout remain completely untouched.

Can I process multiple files in bulk?

A single tool page handles one task at a time; for bulk work use the Batch Processing workflow and add this tool as a step to run a whole set at once.

Is the processed file still editable?

The output remains a standard PDF that can be opened and edited in any PDF viewer; your original document is untouched and you receive a newly cleaned file.
