FAQ
Will my file or password be uploaded?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser — decryption and re-encryption happen entirely in client memory; neither files nor passwords are ever uploaded, and all data is cleared upon closing the page.
Are there any limits?
You must provide the current valid open password, and the new password must be at least 4 characters long. This tool is designed to update passwords and does not support cracking or recovering forgotten passwords.
Is the protection strong enough?
The document is re-encrypted using industry-standard AES-256 powered by the proven qpdf engine. Processing runs entirely in your local browser, providing robust security.
Can I process multiple files in bulk?
A single tool page handles one task at a time; for bulk work use the Batch Processing workflow and add this tool as a step to run a whole set at once.
Is the processed file still editable?
The document content and layout remain unchanged; only the open password is updated. Be sure to remember the new password, as lost passwords cannot be recovered.
